Customer Rating: Summary: Great for Suspended cymbal substitute! Comment: I am a soon to be pit percussionist. I bought this cymbal because of its price. I was looking for something cheap that could replace the need of a orchestral suspended cymbal. This cymbal sounds just as good. If you want a suspended cymbal, buy this one Customer Rating: Summary: Pay a little more for something better.... Comment: This year I purchased my young son a drum set in an effort to help him improve his drumming skills. I've played drum sets off and on for 25 years, and have owned my fair share of both good and bad equipment. Anyway, we purchased one of those 5 piece drum sets, with a single high hat and 16" crash cymbal. I thought it would be good to get him another inexpensive cymbal to position close to the high hat, similar to the configuration I like to use. I had never used Verve before, so decided to give this cymbal a try.
It only took 2 days before the cymbal had developed several dents and the rim is bent in several places, and we have not hit this cymbal hard at all. It has to be made of some of the softest metal I've ever seen in a crash cymbal. Worse than that, the sound is very gong like with a very long decay and no sizzle whatsoever, quite possibly the worst sounding crash cymbal I have ever heard. I should also mention that the bell is very muted and unpleasant to hear when struck with a stick.
Do yourself a favor and pass up this cymbal. The price is cheap, but the product is of such poor quality, you would be much better off spending an extra $20 and picking up a low to mid level Zildjian, Sabian, Paiste, or Meinl brand cymbal.
