Summary: Just what I wanted!
Comment: This thing is great! It plugs right into my macbook and immediately works with Garageband and Reason :) I haven't tried to plug it into my vista or linux because I only plan to use it with my macbook but right away you don't need any software drivers or anything to make it work.

It's much smaller than my 4' old Casio keyboard which is why i bought it and i don't regret buying it :) The Ableton software it came with is kind of crappy and not intuitive at all compared to what I already have, so I ditched it. But I didn't buy this for the free additional software it comes with. I bought it so I could bring it to me and my mac instead of bring my mac and me over to it (like my old fuller sized keyboard >.> ) and it's just the perfect size for that.

Summary: Problems M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2
Comment: I purchased an M-Audio Oxygen 8v2 here in Baltimore and have had nothing but problems. The Ableton really sucks and I wonder why they are pushing Ableton. The tech person at M-Audio told me to try Music Creator by Cakewalk with my system and maybe it would help. I purchased it and was able to get the sound to come out (previously no sound would come out), but when I would exit the program and come back, there would be no sound from a saved file previously recorded. I have changed settings and even upgraded my computer. The store would not take
the product back, and I have decided to make life easier on myself by buying no more M-Audio products. It is difficult to get into their tech support as they keep you holding on the line. I think if people started boycotting computer products and companies that give us nightmares, the companies would be more willing to make products and software that synchronize (too much expansion too soon due to greed and mismanagement) and work more efficiently for people. They make these products quickly for money's sake and don't care whether you have problems, and it has worsened over the years. I will not buy any more M-Audio
products. This was not a plug and play product, right out of the box product for me. I will buy another product which will make my life easier.

Summary: Excellent product! Fast transaction!
Comment: Absolutely love it. I've been using MIDI for nearly 10 years now. This is my first compact MIDI controller and it's actually really really nice. And the software that comes with it is pretty fun.

Summary: very good, solid, budget keyboard
Comment: I'm a digital music noob and have been putting together a modest setup on my Dell laptop running Windows Vista. I'll tell ya it hasn't been easy. Drivers that don't work, programs that won't register and are incompatible with each other, sound cards that are also inadequate, audio interfaces that have bad drivers and won't work with anything else, oh my, it's been some hard lessons learned and there are lots of regrets along the way. But my one component that has been hassle free and has worked to my expectations right out of the box is my M-Audio keyboard.

Besides being easy to set up and use, I've been impressed with the quality. It really is a heavy-duty instrument. The whole thing just as a very sturdy, substantial feel to it. The key-action is decent. It does register how hard you press the keys pretty well. The one thing I don't like is that I have a fairly "light touch" and it fails to register some of my keystrokes. It really wants you to pound the keyboard apparently. I've gotten used to it, and it's fine for putting together little tunes at home, but it's no piano replacement, that's for sure.

Summary: Cheap, no frills , Ableton SUCKS!!
Comment: Well this being my first foray into MIDI. I may sound like a complete moron. First the CONS-
1- this thing is a lot bigger in person (that's what she said) It is big and clunky. I would have been better off buying something that made sounds on it's own for the size of this thing.
2- it only has a MIDI out connection. I was hoping it would have like a headphone jack or an out jack, nothing. That would have made a beginner like me happy.
3- Ableton comes bundled with it? This thing can't do anything. Apparently they want me to buy the full version based upon the way the screen looks (I am working with a lite version of Nero that has much better capabilities ao Ableton can stuff it's full version). I think I am going to remove that garbage from my computer. I have a Moog program I use to play the keyboard and I have to record it from my computer to an outside source. Any advice (that doesn't sound like Klingon or a stupid Ableton commercial) would be helpful. But I imagine I will figure it out on my own. Bottom line the ableton they sent doesn't even notice the keyboard or any sound on my computer that wasn't made by ableton.

And now the pros......... crickets.......ahem zilch
THUMBS DOWN!!!!
